Stories from the weave studio: April

Thinking time

This month I’ve been referring to older work with a view to creating new pieces. The light comes into my studio first thing in the morning and picks out details. This has been a slower month taking time to think, consider, looking back at previous work.

On the loom

A warp of hot orange, browns, tangerine and soft dusty pinks currently sits on my loom. I’ve been weaving large scale honeycomb patterns on this using various paper and hemp yarns.

The results are vibrant yet subtle warm wall hangings rich in colours and texture.

Scarf with handpainted warp

This scarf was woven using a handpainted linen and cotton warp combined with recycled wool yarn in subtle greys and blues with pops of bright reds, greens and ultramarine from silk waste, along with recycled fine blue wool yarn, linen, silk and cotton. The blocks of colour along the length of the scarf work nicely when worn draped or tied. The materials give the scarf a beautiful drape and sheen. Find this scarf online at LiminalWEAVE.
